OUR TRAINING METHODSWe train our dogs using the Pack dog theory. This allows the dog to work in its natural way; being subordinate in the pack — YOUR PACK! Our training consists of repetition and consistency; training is for both dogs and handlers. We at Barking Mad do NOT look at the breed; we look at the dog regardless of what coat it is wearing. OUR CLASSESWe don’t run fixed length courses at Barking Mad. We recognise that our clients have busy lives and that making a commitment to attend a class every week over 12 or so weeks can be difficult. Therefore, our training course is an ongoing one, and you train at your own speed. The training is delivered in three classes: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each class is structured around the activities covered to achieve the grades laid down by the British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers. When we feel that a number of you are ready for the test we will organise a test night. Progress from one class to another will be decided by the instructors, and we recognise that all dogs and owners learn at different rates. BRONZE CLASSUntrained dogs, puppies and inexperienced handlers will find this class the best for them. Every new dog and handler starts off in this class. The Bronze class runs from 7.20pm to 8.00pm SILVER CLASSFor the more experienced handlers and dogs. In this class dogs are expected to be able to achieve the Bronze standard and be introduced to things such as heel-free and longer stays etc. The Silver class runs from 8.00pm to 8.45pm GOLD CLASSOur top dogs’ class — for experienced handlers and dogs. Many of the exercises in the Gold class are performed off lead. The Gold class runs from 9.00pm to 10.00pm |
